Subj: TactiCom Announces Application/System monitor using user simulation. TactiCom went live today with our next generation Application/System monitor. Our new monitor verifies that Internet applications are functioning correctly with user simulation. The simulation system continually uses the system in a similar manner to end users accessing the applications via a web browser. - Benefits over existing systems:
- The main advantage with this system over existing monitoring system is its use of user simulation. By using the TactiCom developed user simulation system, it performs a complete functional test on the system over the Internet. Should any part of the system fail, the monitor will see the error and take the action required. In the past, systems would typically 'ping' ports or looked for a valid response from a port or Internet address. Current monitors only ensure that the web server is responding at an address on a corresponding port. By functionally testing the system, the monitor tests the entire application or service and can detect issues such as database time outs, heavy load conditions, web server problems, SQL sources becoming unavailable, etc.
- As with previous TactiCom systems, the system monitors are located on the opposite coasts (in the USA) than the systems being monitored. For example if we are monitoring a system in Massachusetts, the primary monitor would be run on a system in San Jose, CA and the secondary monitor on a system in Vienna, VA.
- TactiCom provides 24/7 coverage for system monitoring accounts.
- The system can run a set of commands or programs on encountering errors. It can perform both a soft and hard boot automatically. Upon encountering a problem, the system automatically notifies system administrators and support personnel by phone, pager and e-mail.
